In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation within the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of your Cajun boy and his family, living on the bayous you might say of life that we can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land to the oil company, which comes in, drills, and instead gives off everything exactly like it was, clean and unspoiled apart from the family includes a little more money. (Yes, it turned out funded through the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends almost all of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating across the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, along with his pet raccoon. He never wears your life preserver or shoes... doesn't also have a cell phone to speak to case he gets in danger. There is not much story, just a celebration (in these stunning white and black photography that you can well wonder what the big deal is around color) of the way of life that's no longer around.
All with the actors were amateurs, and then for most, this was their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who played the boy, was living in a FEMA trailer along with his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their residence. (source). He had a chance at fame inside the movies, but that they stayed where he was from and apparently grew up with an appreciation of family (a wedding of over fifty years) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story a suitable free movie for starters of our most family-friendly holidays.
