Video Streaming On Website! Your Thanksgiving free movie list is only two movies long, but what movies! Unlike Halloween (that I offered you a list of 100 free scary movies here), Thanksgiving takes a different twist. Neither could well be specific to Thanksgiving, nevertheless they relate to some themes in the holiday. Frankly, I can enjoy these free movies for Thanksgiving or any day with the year.

Big oil company propaganda using a heart! Just the free movie we want for Thanksgiving! This 78-minute semi-documentary from 1948 is one from the most lyrical American films ever made. In 1994, The Louisiana Story was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress to "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." It is the story of a Cajun boy and the family, living around the bayous in ways of life that individuals can barely imagine.
The boy's family rents land towards the oil company, which comes in, drills, and instead gives off everything just like it was, clean and unspoiled except that the family includes a little more money. (Yes, it turned out funded by the Standard Oil Company.)
The boy spends almost all of his time on his narrow boat (pirogue), floating along the bayous, prime snake and alligator habitat, together with his pet raccoon. He never wears your life preserver or shoes... doesn't even have a cell phone to contact case he gets struggling. There is not much story, merely a celebration (in such stunning grayscale photography that you might well wonder what are the big deal is about color) of an way of life which is no longer around.
All of the actors were amateurs, and then for most, this was their only film. As of April 2007, J.C. Boudreaux, who totally boy, was living in a FEMA trailer regarding his wife of fifty-five years, after Hurricane Rita destroyed their property. (source). He had an opportunity at fame inside movies, but that he stayed where he was from and apparently knew as a kid an appreciation of family (a wedding of over 50 years) reflects why I consider The Louisiana Story an appropriate free movie for one of our most family-friendly holidays.

A black and white silent film that ends having a woman being burned alive? Oh, yes, precisely what every family needs at Thanksgiving. But, I have 3 good reasons for including The Passion of Joan of Arc within this pair of free movies for Thanksgiving.
First, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was available. Second, I am thankful that The Passion of Joan of Arc was preserved. The director Carl Theodor Dreyer (more) died thinking that the last copy ended up destroyed. In a little bit of weirdness that sounds similar to a movie as opposed to truth, a virtually complete print is discovered in 1981 inside a janitor's closet of a Norwegian mental institution.
Finally, I am grateful that people can watch this magnificent film, on many lists in the greatest films of all time, at no cost online at Gloria.tv, a Roman Catholic video site.
Maria Falconetti (more), who plays Joan, suffered an emotional breakdown during the making on this film, and he or she never made another film. Pauline Kael (more), a notoriously demanding film critic, declared Falconetti's performance "may be the finest performance ever recorded on film."
